Retired garden designer whose work in Auckland and beyond focused on considered, plant-rich spaces that sit comfortably with their architecture and landscape.
Over many years Margaret designed gardens across Auckland, Northland, Waikato and Taranaki for homeowners, architects and commercial clients – from small courtyards to coastal lifestyle blocks and large estates.
She sees gardens as living spaces that need care and specialist knowledge: well-proportioned, generous with planting and sensitive to the site. Listening closely to how people use and feel about their outdoor spaces was always at the heart of her work, so that the gardens created together could offer long-term pleasure and nourishment.
A long-standing fascination with architecture, structure and planting design informed Margaret’s approach – taking cues from the house or buildings, then weaving patterns, textures and seasonal stories with plants.
A glimpse of the range of projects Margaret designed – formal estates, urban public spaces and richly planted gardens.
Margaret is now retired from full-time practice but remains happily immersed in the world of gardens. She can still be reached for the occasional conversation about past projects or planting ideas.
